Marlborough Lines Andover
Headquarters Land Forces has been based at Andover since the summer of 2010 (it was formerly at Wilton).
Land Forces was formed on 1 April 2008 when Land Command and the Adjutant General's Command combined. The refurbished site at Andover, a former RAF station and previously occupied by members of the Defence Equipment and Support organisation (DE & S) has been renamed Marlborough Lines in honour of John Churchill, the 1st Duke of Marlborough, described as Britain's greatest-ever general. Office buildings have been named Blenheim, Ramillies and Sedgemoor after the Duke's battles and the garden outside Blenheim is called the Churchill Garden.
The Army's Land Forces Headquarters (HQLF), which commands the majority of troops in the United Kingdom and Germany, employs 2,000 people, covering such diverse tasks as the Commander in Chief's Land Forces headquarters, HQ Field Army, HQ Personnel and Support Command, HQ Force Development and Training and HQ Joint Helicopter Command.
Staff for the new headquarters moved in 2010, primarily from Wilton and Upavon. The new headquarters' buildings provide a modern working environment that is more efficient, economical and environmentally friendly, with open plan offices, a gym, cafes, shops and landscaped gardens.
Just outside Andover, is Amport House, the Armed Forces Chaplaincy Centre, a Headquarters for all faiths practised by members of the Armed Forces. Besides supporting the Service Chaplains, the Centre offers many courses to those who are interested in developing their ability to work with people in the Service community.
