Bicester Garrison & RAF Weston on the Green
Bicester is situated just north of the City of Oxford, and is home to HQ Bicester Garrison, 23 Pioneer Regiment, DSDC, DCTA, and DSDA. RAF Weston on the Green, near Bicester, is home of the Joint Service Parachute Centre Weston-On-The-Green (JSPC(W)): responsible for delivering Adventurous Training and Force Development through the medium of Parachuting.
A wide range of shopping and entertainment facilities can easily accessed in Oxford, Banbury, Aylesbury, Milton Keynes. London is also within an hour travelling either by car, train or coach.
Service Families Accommodation There is just one main SFA area for Bicester for both Soldiers and Officers. This is in the village of Ambrosden. This is located approx 2.5 miles from 23 Pioneer Regt and HQ Bicester Garrison
Unit Facilities 15 Army Education Centre is located at Bicester; which has an Army Learning Centre, Library. There are many courses on offer. This facility is available for all Serving Personnel and their dependants to use, as well as Civil Servants working in the Garrison area. The Garrison has a Gym which has a large indoor gym which is use for Football, Badminton, Circuit training, and aerobics; the Gym also has various Aerobic machines and free weights. There is also an indoor heated Swimming pool, this is open for lane swimming during the day and family swim times after school. Future plans are to open a swim school and Aqua aerobics classes. The Community centre hosts, Mums and Tots, Youth Club, Music Train. Tumble Tots.
Schools There are 2 pre-schools and one local Foundation/Primary school for Families living in the Ambrosden Married Quarter area. There are also 2 Secondary Schools in Bicester.
Transport Bicester has 2 local train stations. Bicester Town provides trains into Oxford. Bicester North is on a main line to London and Banbury. Bus and Train timetables are available from the HIVE. Oxford also has a very good Park and Ride Scheme Due to being very close to the M40. Many Airports - London Heathrow, Luton; Stansted, Gatwick and Birmingham International are also easily reached, most within an hour.
ShoppingThe quartering area of Ambrosden has a local Spar shop, as well as a Post Office and small shop.
Healthcare There is a Medical and Dental Centre located at St Georges Barracks for all serving personnel. For families living in the Ambrosden Quarter area, Ambrosden Surgery is the local Doctors and is attached to a larger practice in Bicester.
