Royal Air Force Coningsby’s mission: 'To Develop the future, deliver the present and commemorate the past of the Royal Air Force’s combat air power’, reflects the diverse array of aircraft based here. These aircraft include
Harrier GR9,
Tornado GR4, Spitfires and Lancaster of the
Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, and
Typhoon, the Royal Air Force’s most modern and versatile fighter aircraft.
Originally built as a station for Bomber Command, Coningsby hosted the world-famous Dambusters of 617 Squadron and Vulcan jet bombers before transferring to Fighter Command in the 1960s.

RAF Coningsby has a wide range of social and sporting facilities. The NAAFI / XL club, Spar shop, Typhoon Bar, Sports and Social Club and Cedar Bowl are situated close to the living accommodation, all within one building. Above the Junior Ranks mess is the Health & Fitness Suite, a well-equipped gymnasium with Sauna and Solarium. Other sporting facilities include the golf club, squash courts, tennis courts, Astro turf football field, large sports field and main station gymnasium. A wide range of sports clubs is run on the unit. A station barber is also found on base, and a library and Internet suite are located within Force Development Headquarters, close to the Station HIVE Information Centre.
The nearest towns are Woodhall Spa (about 5 miles) and Boston Spa (14 miles).
