RAF Kinloss
RAF Kinloss was home of the Mighty Hunter the nimrod MR2 which was retired in March 2010. Under the Strategic Defence Review the Nimrod MRA4 will no longer be brought into service and is cancelled with immediate effect. RAF Kinloss will therefore no longer be required as a Main Operating Base and will close as an RAF unit. However, there remains a current defence requirement for the airfield to act as a Relief Landing Ground (Emergency) for RAF Lossiemouth GR4 aircraft. The airfield continues to be used by the Moray Flying Club and No 663 VGS. At present 120 Sqn, 201 Sqn and 42 Sqn are based at RAF Kinloss and RAF Mountain Rescue continues to provide support. (taken from RAF Kinloss website & RAF Kinloss HIVE website)RAF Kinloss is situated on the Moray Coast along with its sister station RAF Lossiemouth. Kinloss is approximately 3 miles from the small town of Forres and 27 miles from the main busy city of Inverness.
