Oakhanger
RAF Station Oakhanger was a Royal Air Force station split over three operational sites with accommodation in nearby Bordon. The main site and operations centre was near the village of Oakhanger with two other sites nearby. FAF Oakhanger was the home of No 1001 Signal Unit, responsible for supporting satellite communications services for the British Armed Forces worldwide.
Support to British military satellite communications was outsourced in 2003 and the station was decommissioned, closed and handed over to the private company at that time
Today, Oakhanger is home to 3 satellite communications units, that are either operated
by or associated with the Ministry of Defence: Telemetry and Command Station Oakhanger, NATO Satellite Ground Terminal and Skynet 5 Oakhanger Site (formerly RAF Oakhanger).
The town of Bordon is set within beautiful countryside and close to many interesting towns, for example Winchester, Portsmouth, Farnham and Guildford. It is also an easy commute into London by train.
